Egyptian Theatre Birthday Club
From 1929 to today! The Egyptian Theatre has been providing entertainment to the greater DeKalb area for over 9 decades! Support our historic theatre today by making a $95 or more donation to our Birthday Club for our 95th birthday! Your generosity today can help ensure generations to come can enjoy the gift of entertainment.
The non-profit organization Preservation of Egyptian Theatre, Inc. formed and took over ownership of the Theatre in 1978. The non-profit organization has owned and operated the Theatre since 1978 when it got the Theatre listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The theatre is used by many community organizations for their events, films, and national touring acts.
We are host to over 30 different community organizations each year including local arts organizations, Northern Illinois University, local non-profits, and more. We average 180+ events each year welcoming over 50,000 people. The historic Egyptian Theatre is a beloved place for many generations that have performed on stage, seen their first movie, gone on a date, shared their first kiss in the balcony, or other countless memories.
From visits by John F. Kennedy to Ronald Reagan to First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, there is no doubt that the Egyptian Theatre is one of the most important community assets we have. The 1,400 seat historic Egyptian Theatre is a tremendous jewel. Once one of more than 100, today it is one of only seven remaining Egyptian Theatres left in the United States and the only one east of the Rocky Mountains. In 2018 the State of Illinois named the Egyptian Theatre in the Top 20 Architectural Treasures in the State and in 2008 the Theatre was named 1 of 150 Great Places in Illinois by the American Institute of Architects.
*Birthday Club donations do not apply towards a theatre membership.
